Henry announced a class assignment to do soils analysis on the farm. There will be 5 teams of four persons. We are to take four soil samples 2-3” down in assigned areas in a ramdomly chosen row. Let it dry for a week, sift with the 1/16” strainer and do soil analysis for Ph, N,P.K
The results will be transcribed into the Farm management file.

Wendy announced the support of the farm for the Swords into Plows organization. They help place returning military veterans into farm work. An article can be found at: nytimes.com/national of 2/6/11 and look for Swords into plows

The Press Democrat in Sonoma County reported that the county supervisors were to decide today whether to open up land for community gardens, farmers and ranchers. Land owned by the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District overseen by the supervisors could make land available for agricultural uses for an inexpensive amount of money.
Wendy and Henry will be teaching for the Marin Master Gardeners along with Jeffery Creek and Marin Organics here at the farm. It will be 4 meetings to discuss many of the same things presented in the class. The cost is $150.00
A film crew will be on the farm next Wednesday. They are continuing to document the establishment and continuation of the farm. If you don’t want to be filmed, please let someone in charge know about that.
There will be a water conference in Pt. Reyes, on the 25 to 27 through film. Also concerning water, on May 18th – 20th, the Geography of Hope will also be at Pt. Reyes.
The discussion today revolves around soil, soil health and the interaction between plant roots and microbes/nutrients in the soil. It is highly recommended that participants read the following book: Teaming with Microbes: A Gardener’s Guide to the Soil Food Web by Jeff Lowenfels & Wayne Lewis. Available on Amazon/Kindle
