Week 9 - Notes from the Farm March 23
Thanks Katy!
Today many in our class took part in transplanting starts that have germinated in the greenhouse. With all the rain it was too wet for any outdoor planting today. The greenhouse is teeming with all the new life of recent propagation, the seeds sown earlier this month have germinated and are all popping up their new shoots. The starts were transplanted in a slightly richer mix called lunch mix, consisting of 2/3 breakfast mix and 1/3 compost. Some of the flowers transplanted today included; Cosmos, Marigolds, Snap Dragons, Yarrow, Painted Tongue, and a variety of Sunflowers including Velvet Queen, Italian White Sunflower, Valentine Sunflower, Mexican Sunflower. These potted flowers will be ready for the plant sale in April.
Some of us in the class met with our designated groups to perform soil tests using the LaMotte testing kit with the soil samples we took from the garden last week.
Final touches are underway on the hoop houses and some students participated with this.
