Annie Millar Desmond is a program director at Slide Ranch, and in this photo she is showing the cleft graft she made in today’s grafting class. Cleft grafting is the most common form of grafting and is best done in the spring. It is useful for joining a thin scion about 1cm diameter to a thicker rootstock for the purpose of propagating a fruit tree and inducing fruitfulness without the need for completing the juvenile stage of development.
Annie is continually inspired by Wendy’s ability to marry poetry and science into information that is communicated directly and infused with love. This was a major factor in Annie’s desire to attend the Farm class this spring. “It is good to be a teacher and be taught at the same time. Taking this class is like adding an amendment to your soul of knowledge and inspiration”.
