Captured Student of Week Twelve: Liam Horan

Liam Horan is an inspiring fellow. He is taking action to improve his own life and aspires to improve the lives of others. In the past week he gave up smoking, cold turkey, after seven years of habitual use. He is committed to his health through diet and exercise and wants to see the world around him become healthier too. Liam was born and raised here in Marin. He attended Redwood high school and is currently working for the College and at the farmers market in Oakland making crepes. Liam is thoroughly unhappy with the way the world is working. He notices that people are leading unconscious lives and believes this begins in childhood. “When the twin towers went down Bush said go buy something “, Liam feels this sentiment, regarding consumerism, is at the core of peoples lack of connection to each other, art and nature. Liam is both concerned and fearful regarding the fragility of the world. The dumping of trash and exploding nuclear reactors are among the few concerns he spoke of.

Liam states, “My purpose in this life is to find my deepest level of self and serve others.” The farming class represents this ethos for him for it is through a gaining of knowledge and experience that he believes he can create a simple life, provide healthy food for himself and others, all while making a positive impact on the world.

I could tell after just a few moments of conversation with Liam that he is a passionate guy, I really believe in my heart that he will accomplish anything he sets his mind and heart to! He said that, “passionate vision creates change and positive change spreads exponentially. “
